Carlo, italienischer Schriftsteller, * Rom 17. 3. 1917, ✝ Montecarlo (Provinz Lucca) 29. 1. 1987; nahm während des Zweiten Weltkrieges an den Partisanenkämpfen in der Toskana teil; war dann Gymnasiallehrer in Grosseto. Seine meist in der Toskana spielenden Erzählungen und Romane, der Nüchternheit eines Tatsachenberichtes angenähert, zeigen die Verflochtenheit individueller Schicksale mit dem politischen Geschehen der faschistischen Epoche und der Zeit nach dem Krieg. Cassola trat auch als Essayist hervor (»Ultima frontiera«, 1976).
